A Marine major has been identified as a suspect in an alleged hit-and-run incident last week in Okinawa, Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Citing statements from Okinawan Prefecture Police, Japanese media have identified Maj. John Ahn as the suspect in the Dec. 4 incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ahn is assigned to the <\/span>III Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Courtney, said 2nd. Lt. Courtney Caimona, a spokeswoman for III MEF and Marine Corps Installations Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The Marine involved has been cooperating fully and completely with the Marine Corps Provost Marshal’s Office and Okinawa Prefectural Police as an investigation is being conducted into the alleged hit-and-run in Okinawa City,” on Dec. 4, <\/span>Caimona said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Japan Times, an English-language newspaper, reported that Ahn is in military custody and prefecture police plan to file charges by the end of Decemberthe year<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Corps is working with local authorities investigating the case. Citing established policy, the Corps will not provide details about the investigationsay how the investigation is shaping up<\/span>, Caimona said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Police in Okinawa could not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stars and Stripes newspaper reported that Ahn was identified by police in Okinawa as the driver of a car that struck a moped from behind while driving to work. A side mirror found at the scene was later connected to his car, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed officials from Okinawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The moped driver was hospitalized and has been unconscious since the collision, the news<\/span>paper reported.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Maj.
