Just weeks after millions of Americans were affected by\u00a0the largest data breach in U.S. history, the top military leaders in cyber defense met to discuss how best to protect the country’s networks and apply cyber capabilities during tactical operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two-day Cyber Security for National Defense Symposium\u00a0kicked off on Aug. 4 with an address from\u00a0Adm. Michael Rogers, the head\u00a0Commander of <\/span>U.S. Cyber Command and director of the National Security Agency. Rogers was one of more than half a dozen military cyber\u00a0leaders who spoke during the event, including the Marine Corps’ top two cyber officials.\u00a0\u00a0Adm. Michael Rogers spoke to top defense department officials and national security experts as they convened in Alexandria, Virginia, today for the .<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n The two-day <\/span>symposium, hosted\u00a0by the Defense Strategies Institute\u00a0just outside Washington, D.C.,\u00a0run by the Defense Strategies Institute, <\/span>carries renewed relevance as the Obama administration government entities <\/span>redoubles efforts to secure government\u00a0their<\/span> networks following a hack of the Office of Personnel Management this summer\u00a0that\u00a0compromised more than 21.5 2<\/span> million personnel records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the symposium, <\/span>Marine leaders addressed major points of concern during the symposium, including training more\u00a0cultivating a cadre of <\/span>cyber warriors, overhauling the Defense Department acquisition process to counter rapidly evolving\u00a0cyber threats, including\u00a0better integration of <\/span>cyber Marines in planning \u00a0into Marine Air-Ground Task Force <\/span>operations planning<\/span>, and restructuring cyber networks to improve security at home and abroad provide\u00a0access when deployed<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Marine Corps is aggressively pursuing solutions to those challenges in part by introducing more cyber lessons into officer and enlisted professional military education, said Col. Gregory Breazile, the director of the service’s\u00a0C2\/Cyber and Electronic Warfare Division, who spoke at the symposium.\u00a0The hope is that future leaders have a better grasp of cyber as they plan operations and secure information, he told Marine Corps Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This summer, for example, the Marine Corps hired a “cyber chair” at the Marine Corps University atboard<\/span> Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, to lead the development of more cyber-themed studies\u00a0curriculum<\/span>,\u00a0said Col.
