Vasillios G. Pistolis was found guilty at Monday\u2019s hearing and was hit with the near maximum punishment allowed for a summary court-martial: 28 days of confinement, reduction in rank to E-1, and forfeiture of two-thirds pay for one month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Initial reports of Pistolis\u2019 court-martial led to some confusion with prominent social activists, decrying the Corps\u2019 decision to keep in an alleged neo-Nazi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The misunderstanding was largely rooted in the administrative process of the military justice system: the Corps simply had not yet made a decision on separation.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2018\/06\/19\/neo-nazi-marine-found-guilty-at-summary-court-martial\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/charlottesville.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Marine with neo-Nazi affiliations found guilty at summary court-martial<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Marine was demoted, sentenced to 28 days confinement, loss of pay, and likely will still get the boot.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPistolis has been notified that he is being processed for administrative separation. His confinement will be carried out at the Marine Corps Installations East\u2019s regional brig at Camp Lejeune,\u201d Marine spokesman 1st Lt. Samir J. Glenn-Roundtree said in a press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A summary court-martial generally is used for minor offenses. Pistolis was charged with Article 92, failure to obey a regulation, and Article 107, making false official statements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following sentencing, Pistolis was afforded seven days to submit a request for leniency to the convening officer to have his sentence reduced, a standard rule for courts-martial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The maximum penalty of a lance corporal for a summary court-martial is \u201creduction in rank to E-1 and up to 30 days confinement, or 60 days restriction,\u201d Glenn-Roundtree said in the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But summary courts-martial can be used as the basis for administrative separation. Pistolis always faced the possibility of being separated despite the initial Monday sentencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Marine Corps has a zero-tolerance policy for participation in a extremist groups or white supremacist organizations. And what defines participation can be relatively broad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps has already exercised that authority twice when it booted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2017\/10\/12\/marine-arrested-for-trespassing-after-unfurling-white-nationalist-banner-could-be-promoted\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Sgt. Michael J. Chesny and Staff Sgt. Joseph W.
