{"id":28330,"date":"2018-05-16T21:26:10","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T21:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/05\/16\/the-corps-just-received-its-first-ch-53-king-stallion\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T21:00:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T21:00:23","slug":"the-corps-just-received-its-first-ch-53-king-stallion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2018\/05\/16\/the-corps-just-received-its-first-ch-53-king-stallion\/","title":{"rendered":"The Corps just received its first CH-53K King Stallion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps took delivery of its first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2018\/05\/01\/the-corps-will-take-first-delivery-of-new-ch-53-king-stallion-soon\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">CH-53 King Stallion<\/a> heavy lift helicopter at the New River air station in North Carolina on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CH-53K is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/air\/2017\/04\/25\/cost-of-us-marine-corps-ch-53k-helicopter-program-grows-to-27-7b\/\">most powerful helicopters <\/a>across the Defense Department and is capable of lifting nearly three times the weight of its predecessor, the CH-53E.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the King Stallion isn\u2019t slated to be operational until sometime in 2019. The helicopter delivered by Sikorsky has further testing to undergo with the Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2018\/05\/01\/the-corps-will-take-first-delivery-of-new-ch-53-king-stallion-soon\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"179\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/King.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">The Corps will take first delivery of \u2018most powerful helicopter in the Defense Department\u2019 in May<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The new CH-53 King Stallion will be handed over to the Marines for further testing, and will be operational by 2019.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe helicopter\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-navy\/2016\/12\/23\/the-navy-is-establishing-a-v-22-osprey-training-detachment\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\"> arrival to New River<\/a> enters it into the Supportability Test Plan where U.S. Marines will conduct a logistical assessment on the maintenance, sustainment and overall aviation logistics support of the King Stallion,\u201d the Corps said in a command release Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CH-53K has hit several other milestones over the last several months. In April, the heavy lift helicopter had its first international debut at ILA Berlin air show. (Navy)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sikorsky, the manufacturer of the CH-53K, said there was an additional 18 aircraft already in production and that the company expected to deliver the Corps\u2019 second CH-53K in early 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am very proud of the work accomplished to deliver the most powerful helicopter ever designed into the hands of our Marines,\u201d Lt. Gen. Steven Rudder, deputy commandant for aviation, said in a command release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps plans to field a total of 200 CH-53Ks over the coming years.
