href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2022\/12\/29\/australia-to-extradite-marine-vet-who-allegedly-trained-chinese-pilots\/\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Marine Corps pilot Daniel Duggan<\/a> can be extradited to the United States on allegations that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2022\/11\/28\/marine-pilot-arrested-in-australia-treated-as-high-risk-prisoner\/\" target=\"_blank\">he illegally trained Chinese aviators<\/a>, leaving the attorney-general as Duggan\u2019s last hope of remaining in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Magistrate Daniel Reiss ordered the Boston-born 55-year-old to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2022\/12\/13\/marine-vet-faces-us-charges-for-training-chinese-military-pilots\/\" target=\"_blank\"> remain in custody awaiting extradition.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While his lawyers said they had no legal grounds to challenge the magistrate\u2019s ruling that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2022\/12\/13\/marine-vet-faces-us-charges-for-training-chinese-military-pilots\/\" target=\"_blank\">Duggan was eligible for extradition<\/a>, they will make submissions to Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus on why the pilot should not be surrendered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe attorney will give us sufficient time, I\u2019m quite sure, to ventilate all of the issues that under the Extradition Act are not capable of being run in an Australian court,\u201d Duggan\u2019s lawyer, Bernard Collaery, two counts of violating U.S. arms control laws, one count of conspiracy to launder money and one count of conspiracy.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dreyfus\u2019 office said in a statement the government does not comment on extradition matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duggan\u2019s wife and mother of his six children, Saffrine Duggan, said the extradition court hearing was \u201csimply about ticking boxes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow, we respectfully ask the attorney-general to take another look at this case and to bring my husband home,\u201d she told a gathering of reporters and supporters outside court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pilot has spent 19 months in maximum-security prison since he was arrested in 2022 at his family home in the state of New South Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a 2016 indictment from the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., unsealed late 2022, prosecutors say Duggan conspired with others to provide training to Chinese military pilots in 2010 and 2012, and possibly at other times, without applying for an appropriate license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors say Duggan received about nine payments totaling around 88,000 Australian dollars ($61,000) and international travel from another conspirator for what was sometimes described as \u201cpersonal development training.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duggan served in the Marine Corps for 12 years before immigrating to Australia in 2002. In January 2012, he gained Australian citizenship, choosing to give up his U.S. citizenship in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The indictment says Duggan traveled to the United States, China and South Africa, and provided training to Chinese pilots in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duggan has denied the allegations, saying they were
