The Mexican troops reportedly removed a weapon from the American soldier who was armed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. Northern Command, which manages <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2019\/03\/21\/border-ops-straining-marine-corps-commandant-warns\/\" target=\"_blank\">military support for Customs and Border Protection<\/a>, said the Americans were in a CBP vehicle in a remote area in the vicinity of Clint, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/your-military\/2019\/01\/15\/dod-extends-border-deployment-to-september\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/4988970.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Pentagon extends border deployment for active duty troops through September<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Active duty troops were first sent to the border in October 2018 to secure it from an arriving caravan of migrants.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident happened on April 13 and was first reported by Newsweek, which said one of the Mexican military members removed a service pistol from the hip of one of the Americans and threw it inside the U.S. government vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Northern Command statement to The Associated Press on Tuesday said an inquiry by the Defense Department and CBP revealed that the Mexican military members believed they were on Mexican territory at the time they confronted the Americans. The incident happened on a slice of U.S. territory south of the border wall but north of the actual border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;After a brief discussion between the soldiers from the two nations, the Mexican military members departed the area,&#8221; Northern Command said. &#8220;The U.S. soldiers immediately contacted CBP, who responded quickly.
