Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., has launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccaskill.senate.gov\/va-home-loan-scam\" target=_blank>a new website<\/a> where her state\u2019s residents can contact her office directly with details of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/home-hq\/va-loan-center\/2018\/02\/22\/caught-in-the-churn-take-these-steps-to-limit-your-loan-related-solicitations\/\" target=_blank>predatory lending tactics<\/a>. It also outlines some of the techniques used by lenders who may attempt to skirt VA regulations to defraud veteran homeowners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the areas of concern highlighted by the site:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><b>No-skip rules. <\/b>Lenders offering VA-backed Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loans are not permitted to advertise the ability to skip payments as part of their sales pitch.<\/li><li><b>Cash-back claims. <\/b>Lenders promising big money at closing likely will pull these funds from existing escrow accounts. The figures cited in advertising materials may not match the reality of your existing loan.<\/li><li><b>Really low rates.<\/b> Predatory lenders may not explain that the low rate being advertised is an adjustable one, which will go up over the duration of the loan. In January, Sens.
