Mike Rounds, R-S.D., and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., sent a letter to VA leadership asking for more aggressive virus response for veterans with burn pits exposure during recent overseas deployments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They noted that the 200,000 registered members are likely only a small fraction of the total number of veterans with toxic smoke exposure. VA is not releasing information on the age of the deceased or whether they had underlying health conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Across the VA system, 98 facilities have seen at least one death connected to the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VA\u2019s fatality rate among coronavirus cases is between 8 and 9 percent, well above the national rate of about 5.8 percent for all positive virus reports.
