{"id":52889,"date":"2017-12-11T18:24:03","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T18:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2017\/12\/11\/after-army-navy-heartbreak-mids-head-home-for-military-bowl\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T10:40:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T10:40:33","slug":"after-army-navy-heartbreak-mids-head-home-for-military-bowl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/newsletters\/daily-news-roundup\/2017\/12\/11\/after-army-navy-heartbreak-mids-head-home-for-military-bowl\/","title":{"rendered":"After Army-Navy heartbreak, Mids head home for Military Bowl"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Naval Academy football team will get a chance to right its ship after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/off-duty\/military-sports\/army-navy-game\/2017\/12\/09\/two-in-a-row-black-knights-edge-mids-14-13-in-a-snow-covered-classic\/\" title=\"\" data-original-title=\"\">Saturday\u2019s 14-13 loss<\/a> to Army West Point in Philadelphia &#8230; and the Mids won\u2019t have to go far to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Navy will face Virginia on Dec. 28 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman. It\u2019ll be the Mids\u2019 third appearance in the bowl and their second since the game moved to Annapolis from Washington, D.C., in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt will be our seniors\u2019 last game at home,\u201d Navy senior linebacker and team captain D.J. Palmore said after Saturday\u2019s second-straight rivalry loss. \u201cWe all want to go out the right way. I don\u2019t think it is going to be hard to get the guys up for a bowl game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bowl will mark the first meeting between the Mids and Cavaliers since 1994. Navy fans can purchase tickets <a href=\"https:\/\/ev12.evenue.net\/cgi-bin\/ncommerce3\/SEGetEventList?groupCode=BOWL&amp;linkID=navy&amp;shopperContext=&amp;caller=&amp;appCode=&amp;_template=chocolate\" title=\"\" data-original-title=\"\">here<\/a>, or donate seats that will be filled by service members and their families. More details on the Military Bowl\u2019s donation program are available <a href=\"http:\/\/militarybowl.org\/militarytickets\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" data-original-title=\"\">here<\/a>, and through Navy\u2019s athletics website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, one of the games\u2019 nonprofit beneficiaries, distributes the tickets. It is no longer accepting ticket requests \u201cdue to high demand,\u201d per <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.uso.org\/programs\/ticketline\" class=\"selected-link\" title=\"\">the group\u2019s website<\/a>. The game will air live on ESPN at 1:30 p.m. Eastern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Navy\u2019s qualified for a postseason bowl after each of its last six seasons. The Mids are 3-2 entering this year\u2019s bowl; they fell 48-45 to Louisiana Tech in the Armed Forces Bowl last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/militarybowl.org\/\" title=\"\">The Military Bowl<\/a> will celebrate its 10th anniversary this season. Navy defeated Pittsburgh in Annapolis in the 2015 game and lost to Wake Forest in what was then called the EagleBank Bowl in 2008 in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Air Force, the only other service academy to play in the Military Bowl, lost to Toledo in 2011.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Navy&#8217;s seniors get one more shot at victory,
