Here are the numbers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>To date, the 2016 presidential campaign <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">so far <\/span>has included <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">boasted <\/span>20 debates, 12 for Republicans and 8 for Democrats, with\u00a036 moderators questioning the candidates for more than 43 hours on national television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Over <\/span>those events, the top 16 candidates have spoken <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">totaled <\/span>more than 320,000 words. That&#8217;s about\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">roughly <\/span>the length of a typical &#8220;Game of Thrones&#8221; novel.\u00a0Have they said <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Whether they\u2019ve said <\/span>enough of substance? <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">That&#8217;s still up for debate<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"rte rte-comment\">With debate season potentially over for the time being now<\/span><span class=\"rte rte-comment\">, <\/span>Military Times analyzed\u00a0each of the 20 debate transcripts to understand how frequently\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">here\u2019s a look back at the frequency with which of <\/span>key military and national security issues have been addressed during these events<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> during <\/span><span class=\"rte rte-comment\">from the past <\/span><span class=\"rte rte-comment\">eight Democratic and 12 Republican events<\/span>. A\u00a021st debate, scheduled for\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Utah on\u00a0<\/span>Monday in Utah, was canceled after several candidates said they\u00a0planned to skip it<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\u00a0the event<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With debate season over for now, here&#8217;s where the numbers stand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">74 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mentions of <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\u2666\u00a0Times GOP candidates have used <\/span>the phrase &#8220;commander in chief&#8221; by GOP candidates.\u00a0Democrats have said it <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">totaled <\/span>only nine times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">24\u00bd<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Average mentions of &#8220;war&#8221; at each debate. &#8220;Peace&#8221; averages only two mentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions about military veterans asked\u00a0by the debates&#8217; moderators. There have been a total of\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">about U.S. veterans. \u00a0at the debates, out of <\/span>1,444 questions asked.
