{"id":57073,"date":"2019-04-29T23:59:23","date_gmt":"2019-04-29T23:59:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2019\/04\/29\/5-soldiers-under-military-control-after-reportedly-stealing-ordnance-from-fort-hood\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T12:00:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T12:00:36","slug":"5-soldiers-under-military-control-after-reportedly-stealing-ordnance-from-fort-hood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/off-duty\/military-culture\/2019\/04\/29\/5-soldiers-under-military-control-after-reportedly-stealing-ordnance-from-fort-hood\/","title":{"rendered":"5 soldiers under \u2018military control\u2019 after reportedly stealing ordnance from Fort Hood"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gear adrift is not always, as the saying goes, a gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Such was the case for a few neighborhoods in the Killeen, Texas, area, where various forms of ordnance mysteriously appeared Friday night after reportedly going missing from nearby Fort Hood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once base personnel realized there was ordnance unaccounted for, Army representatives contacted the Killeen Police Department to assist in the retrieval process, the <a href=\"http:\/\/kdhnews.com\/news\/local\/army-cid-still-looking-into-missing-ordnance\/article_fba08b78-6924-11e9-bad9-a3c4a27bd34c.html\" target=\"_blank\">Killeen Daily Herald<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The munitions were found stored across a number of homes, spread out across four different neighborhoods like an ordnance William Wallace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe ordnance was training ammunition and was not high explosive ordnance,\u201d a base statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey took the ordnance from a live-fire training exercise that was conducted at Fort Hood, April 18, and the soldiers were not authorized to remove the ordnance from the post. All missing ordnance has been recovered.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you bring home a little groceries. Sometimes a little ordnance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Five soldiers have since been apprehended and are under \u201cmilitary control,\u201d the Fort Hood statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report did not specify how the ordnance was located, but did say an explosive ordnance team from Fort Hood was called in to assist in the recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Killeen Fire department also joined the retrieval effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI felt very unsafe about it, especially knowing my kids were here and I wasn\u2019t present, so I had to rush over here and figure out what was going on,\u201d Killeen resident, Christina Sparacello, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigcountryhomepage.com\/news\/main-news\/5-fort-hood-soldiers-in-military-control-after-taking-training-ammunition-off-post\/1962648307\" target=\"_blank\">Big Country News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All munitions were safely recovered on the same night as being reported missing, the report said, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army\u2019s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident and will make additional information available as the investigation proceeds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes you bring home a little groceries.
