The first trailer for Steve Carell\u2019s newest workplace comedy, \u201cSpace Force,\u201d has finally arrived, and between moon cammies, a failed rocket launch that costs \u201cas much as four new middle schools,\u201d and a Carell meditation that turns into a sing-along of \u201cKokomo\u201d by the Beach Boys, it does not disappoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSpace Force\u201d \u2014 co-created for Netflix by Carell and Greg Daniels, the man who brought us the American version of \u201cThe Office\u201d \u2014 centers on the exploits of Gen. Mark R. Naird (Carell), a decorated pilot who once had lofty dreams of leading the Air Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has always been my dream to command a service branch,\u201d Naird says excitedly in the trailer, seconds before unraveling at the news it would be the U.S. military\u2019s sixth service, Space Force, he would be leading. The new branch\u2019s mission is \u201cto defend satellites from attack\u201d and \u201cperform other space-related tasks … or something,\u201d the show\u2019s teaser trailer<\/a> says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSkeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and \u2018Spacemen\u2019 are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total dominance,\u201d a Netflix release said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSpace Force,\u201d set for a May 29 launch, touts a stellar cast that includes John Malkovich, Jane Lynch, Ben Schwartz, Noah Emmerich, Tawny Newsome, Diedrich Bader, and Jimmy O. Yang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Netflix recently confirmed that long-time \u201cFriends\u201d star, Lisa Kudrow, would also be joining the show to play Carell\u2019s disillusioned wife, Maggie, who \u201csublimated parts of herself to her husband\u2019s career for two decades.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n If the trailer is any indication, the show promises to pull no punches in highlighting disillusionment with leadership and the ridiculousness of military bureaucracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The release of the 10-episode season, an obvious nod to President Donald Trump\u2019s launch of the U.S. military\u2019s newest branch, coincides with Netflix\u2019s impending loss of Carell\u2019s iconic sitcom, \u201cThe Office,\u201d which is expected to move over to NBC\u2019s soon-to-launch streaming platform, \u201cPeacock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Watch the trailer below, and tune in May 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
