{"id":68385,"date":"2023-09-26T15:20:32","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T15:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2023\/09\/26\/82nd-airborne-chorus-to-compete-in-americas-got-talent-finals\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T15:54:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T15:54:47","slug":"82nd-airborne-chorus-to-compete-in-americas-got-talent-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2023\/09\/26\/82nd-airborne-chorus-to-compete-in-americas-got-talent-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"82nd Airborne Chorus to compete in America\u2019s Got Talent finals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/07\/11\/82nd-airborne-chorus-to-compete-in-americas-got-talent-honor-soldier\/\" target=\"_blank\">82nd Airborne All-American Chorus<\/a> will compete Tuesday night in the \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d final against 10 other acts \u2014 and they\u2019re \u201ctraining to win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ensemble has taken the television show by storm, racking up one of the most viral auditions of the season with their first-round rendition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/07\/11\/82nd-airborne-chorus-to-compete-in-americas-got-talent-honor-soldier\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cMy Girl\u201d by the Temptations<\/a> \u2014 a performance that garnered favorable marks from all four judges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the live round, the group performed \u201cI am Here\u201d by Pink, with chorus members telling Military Times the song represented the ideals of 82nd Airborne values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe wanted to choose a song that not only had a good message for what the 82nd Airborne Division stands for, but really just put it out there to the American population that if there\u2019s ever a need for troops for war &#8230; we just want to let everybody know that we are here and we stand for America,\u201d Staff Sgt. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/07\/11\/82nd-airborne-chorus-to-compete-in-americas-got-talent-honor-soldier\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marcus Gilbert<\/a> said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The show\u2019s viewership voted the 82nd singers to advance to the season finale after the live round, a performance in which the soldiers knew they had to \u201cbring something bigger\u201d than traditional Army formations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/07\/11\/82nd-airborne-chorus-to-compete-in-americas-got-talent-honor-soldier\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spc. That show, chorus members told Military Times, was the first time the group had ever used choreography meant for the stage. Designing the routine, meanwhile, meant balancing performance art with the Army traditions of bearing and discipline, Roldan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cObviously, we\u2019re not going to get up there and do wigs, like avant-garde,\u201d he added. \u201cI think what we did was the right amount. &#8230; We needed to do more and we needed to be more dynamic. But we also needed to do it in such a way that people now assigned what they saw to our representation of the military.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the chorus\u2019 song choice for such high stakes, the ensemble members remained tight-lipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou know our policy \u2014 never let them know your next move,\u201d Roldan said. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be different again, but I think this one\u2019s really gonna touch America\u2019s heart. I truly believe that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chorus will perform on NBC on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. EST. Results of the competition will be released Wednesday by NBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/07\/11\/82nd-airborne-chorus-to-compete-in-americas-got-talent-honor-soldier\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fort Liberty, North Carolina<\/a>, the chorus represents the 19,000 soldiers who serve in the 82nd Airborne Division. The division specializes in forcible entry operations, during which soldiers parachute into areas to make way for further military action.
