{"id":70825,"date":"2024-04-08T17:06:47","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T17:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2024\/04\/08\/military-pharmacies-resume-regular-operations-after-cyberattack\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T15:48:41","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T15:48:41","slug":"military-pharmacies-resume-regular-operations-after-cyberattack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/pay-benefits\/military-benefits\/health-care-benefits\/2024\/04\/08\/military-pharmacies-resume-regular-operations-after-cyberattack\/","title":{"rendered":"Military pharmacies resume regular operations after cyberattack"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Military pharmacies have returned to full operations, six weeks after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2024\/03\/14\/military-families-see-rising-costs-waits-after-pharmacy-cyberattack\/\" target=\"_blank\">cyberattack on the nation\u2019s largest commercial prescription processor<\/a> disrupted normal business at thousands of pharmacies around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the Feb. 21 hack, Change Healthcare \u2014 which verifies whether a customer\u2019s health insurance will help cover the cost of each medication \u2014 disconnected its system from other parts of the medical ecosystem in an attempt to limit the attack\u2019s impact. Military pharmacies were able to manually fill prescriptions in the company\u2019s absence, but warned customers of longer wait times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most retail pharmacies restarted filling and refilling patients\u2019 prescriptions by March 8, after much of Change Healthcare\u2019s network had regained function, according to officials from Optum, the UnitedHealth Group subsidiary that oversees Change. But on-base pharmacies lagged behind for multiple weeks as Change worked with Defense Health Agency officials to reestablish its connection to that separate network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The connection was restored the week of April 1, a company spokesperson told Military Times April 5. Defense Health Agency officials didn\u2019t respond to a request for information about the status of the pharmacies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At least one military pharmacy has continued to warn of extended wait times as it recovers from the disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPharmacy services have been fully restored and we have returned to a fully operational status, including the filling of controlled substances,\u201d the 19th Medical Group at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, said in an April 3 Facebook post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, Defense Health Agency officials acknowledged that some beneficiaries may have been asked to pay full price for their prescriptions at Tricare\u2019s in-network retail pharmacies affected by the Change Healthcare outage. Those customers should <a href=\"https:\/\/tricare.mil\/FormsClaims\/Claims\/PharmacyClaims\" target=\"_blank\">file a claim for reimbursement with
