{"id":71845,"date":"2025-01-06T18:09:22","date_gmt":"2025-01-06T18:09:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2025\/01\/06\/va-to-waive-co-pays-for-whole-health-medical-services\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T16:36:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T16:36:36","slug":"va-to-waive-co-pays-for-whole-health-medical-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/veterans\/2025\/01\/06\/va-to-waive-co-pays-for-whole-health-medical-services\/","title":{"rendered":"VA to waive co-pays for Whole Health medical services"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Veterans Affairs officials plan to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/veterans\/2024\/11\/12\/va-plans-to-drop-co-pays-for-all-telehealth-services\/\" target=\"_blank\">waive co-pays<\/a> for certain \u201cwell-being\u201d health care appointments in an effort to encourage more veterans to look into services like yoga, meditation and wellness counseling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move could potentially save patients several hundred dollars a year in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/veterans\/2023\/01\/11\/va-plans-to-waive-medical-copays-for-native-american-vets\/\" target=\"_blank\">medical fees<\/a>, but is less focused on financial relief than emphasizing \u201cthe overall well-being of the veteran,\u201d according to a department release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.va.gov\/press-room\/va-proposes-to-exempt-veterans-from-paying-copays-for-certain-whole-health-well-being-services\/\" target=\"_blank\">In a statement<\/a>, VA Under Secretary for Health <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2024\/05\/22\/gop-senators-demand-firings-of-senior-staff-after-va-bonus-mistakes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Shereef Elnahal <\/a>said the move continues administration efforts to bring more veterans into the department\u2019s medical care system and ensure they get the help they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCopayment exemptions for Whole Health services is a step forward in creating greater access to preventative care for Veterans,\u201d he said. \u201cVA is the best and most affordable care in America for veterans, and this proposed ruling is another step forward to ensuring that cost never prevents a veteran from getting the care they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/veterans\/2024\/11\/12\/va-plans-to-drop-co-pays-for-all-telehealth-services\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/635564022806307539-20140623-telehealth-clinicaljpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">VA plans to drop co-pays for all telehealth services<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The move is part of broader department efforts to expand telehealth options for patients.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The department defines Whole Health services as medical care independent of a specific diagnosis or illness. Instead, appointments focus on the general wellness of the patient, including stress management techniques, skill-building programs and quality-of-life boosters like yoga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the department\u2019s official website for the programs, administrators said they work with veterans to \u201cdevelop a personalized health plan based on your values, needs, and goals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whole Health services are available through 161 medical sites across all 50 states, the Philippines, Puerto Rico and Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The co-pay relief is only a proposal for now. VA officials will have to go through a months-long rulemaking process before the fees can be waived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent months, department leaders have also proposed waiving co-pays for telehealth medical visits and outpatient mental health care appointments.
