It said the destroyer threatened to target the aircraft if it did not leave the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response, the report said, Iranian air forces communicated that they were backed by Iran\u2019s integrated air defense system and that the Fitzgerald \u201cretreated southward,\u201d according to AP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis interaction had no impact to USS Fitzgerald\u2019s mission and any reports claiming otherwise are falsehoods and attempts by Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to spread misinformation,\u201d the defense official said. \u201cU.S. Central Command will continue to operate safely and professionally in accordance with internationally recognized norms and
