Iraqi special forces have swept through the campus of Mosul University. They want to clear it of any remaining Islamic State militants, after taking full control of the area. A military statement said troops had also taken another area along the eastern bank of the Tigris River. The gains will hopefully bring more of Islamic State’s last major stronghold in the country under Iraqi forces’ control. Iraqi forces say they are close to recapturing the entire eastern bank. They are backed by U.S.-led air power in an offensive that was launched in October to retake the city. The campaign involves a Iraqi troops, Kurdish fighters and Shi’ite militias.
