PACIFIC OCEAN (Dec. 17, 2011) Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Alfonso Camacho has his eyes illuminated by a black light after fluorescenin drops were applied by Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Phillip Cowger. Fluorescenin is used to detect problems on the cornea. Damage or irritation on the cornea’s surface appears green under a black light. The test was performed in the Medical Department aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). Carl Vinson and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 are underway on a Western Pacific deployment.
