Siad Alam, 9, after surgery at FOB Lagman to remove his gallbladder, repair his intestine, and fix two broken fingers after playing with unexploded ordnance this morning. His father – who brought him to FOB Baylough to get medical help – wasn’t sure about the nature of the incident. The kids found something near a fence while tending a herd – but the other child, a young girl, was killed in the explosion. The surgeons said, “it’s not uncommon to have children in here injured like this – we just had two in the day before.”
