DAYTON, Ohio — A southwestern Ohio community college has received permission from the Federal Aviation Administration to fly drones in some commercial areas.
The Dayton Daily News reports Sinclair Community College officials said Monday the FAA granted the school an exemption permitting it to fly drones in the additional spaces.
The school already had clearance to fly the devices in some restricted areas, but the new exemption allows it to fly drones up to 200 feet above commercial projects in order to perform services, test sensors and collect data.
The college is also building an indoor pavilion dedicated to drone flight.
The school offers four certification programs and a two-year associate degree in the field of unmanned aerial systems.
