HOLLY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The remains of 13 veterans that went unclaimed in a Detroit morgue are to be buried with full military honors in a Veterans Administration national cemetery.
State troopers are to accompany a 13-hearse procession that is scheduled to leave the Wayne County medical’s examiner’s office Thursday morning.
The burials are to get underway about two hours later at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Township, 60 miles northeast of Detroit.
The remains are among about 200 that were unclaimed at the morgue. Civilian burials were completed last month at a cemetery in Brownstown Township.
Funeral arrangements were coordinated by the Missing in America Project, which also led efforts to identify and verify the military service record of each deceased veteran.
