WASHINGTON \u2014 The \u201cSpace Force\u201d television series will be hitting Netflix this month, but it\u2019s unclear whether the real-life head of the new military branch will be tuning in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have seen the trailer,\u201d Chief of Space Operations Gen. John Raymond said of the new teaser, which dropped on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Netflix\u2019s \u201cSpace Force\u201dparody stars Steve Carell as General Mark R. Naird, a fictional Air Force general tapped to lead the new Space Force on the president\u2019s orders \u2014 and to Naird\u2019s own dismay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The trailer features space operators wearing moon-printed camouflage and a stressed out Naird, who has to deal with angry members of congress and failed space technologies which cost \u201cas much as four middle schools,\u201d as one official ruefully tells the Space Force head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raymond said he is looking forward to the show, which comes out May 29, but by his own admission is not much of a television buff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was funny, probably a year ago I was at home and I was looking at my bank account and I saw that dollars were being taken out for Netflix. And at the time \u2014 and please, Netflix, don\u2019t come after me \u2014 but I didn\u2019t watch Netflix,\u201d he said during a Wednesday event hosted by the Space Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raymond said his first response was to cancel the subscription, but \u201cwithin about 32 seconds\u201d his three children contacted him asking what had happened to their Netflix access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Months later, one of his daughters told him about Netflix\u2019s plans to create a Space Force show starring Carell \u2014the first he had heard of the announcement. But although Raymond said Carell is a \u201cgreat actor,\u201d he wasn\u2019t sure if the star of \u201cThe Office\u201d had the right look to play him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was hoping for Bruce Willis,\u201d he said, referencing the Die Hard star who, like Raymond, is bald. \u201cThe one piece of advice I\u2019d give Steve Carell is to get a haircut. He\u2019s looking a little too shaggy if he wants to play the Space Force chief.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the event, Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett referenced one scene of the teaser, which showed Naird, seemingly on the verge of a breakdown, blowing off steam in his office by singing and dancing to the Beach Boys song \u201cKokomo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re all into \u2018Kokomo,\u2019\u201d she joked. \u201cIt\u2019s just further evidence that space is where things are happening, whether it\u2019s Netflix or the United States\u2019 Pentagon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
