The U.S. official was not authorized to comment publicly on the matter and also requested anonymity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marine Maj. Adrian Rankine Galloway, a Pentagon spokesman, said the U.S. has continued to provide aerial refueling for coalition aircraft and intelligence assistance. Robert Neller told a congressional committee that U.S. forces are seeing a surge in laser use off the coast of Yemen.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are not directly supporting the coalition offensive on the port of Hodeida,\u201d Rankine-Galloway said. \u201cThe United States does not command, accompany, or participate in counter-Houthi operations or any hostilities other than those authorized\u201d against al-Qaida and Islamic State militants in Yemen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Saudi-led coalition launched the assault on Hodeida on Wednesday, raising worries that it could worsen Yemen\u2019s humanitarian disaster and trigger prolonged fighting in the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.N. Security Council has pressed for a diplomatic solution to end Yemen\u2019s three-year conflict with Shiite rebels, and has been working to relaunch negotiations with the Houthis to have them withdraw from the port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>Associated Press writer Lolita C.
