PORT ORANGE, Fla. (AP) <\/span>\u2014 A 91-year-old retired optician and World War II combat veteran is inspiring many people through his volunteer work at a local Veterans Affairs clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Daytona Beach News-Journal<\/a> (http:\/\/bit.ly\/1BtL9Pg<\/a> )<\/span> reports that Orville Swett has helped to repair and adjust eyeglasses at the clinic for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swett owned an eyeglass shop in Maine before moving to Port Orange in 1985 and beginning his volunteer work. He has since logged more than 38,000 volunteer hours at the clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sweet received a Purple Heart in world War II after he sustained a life-threatening brain injury during the invasion of Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clinic officials say he is valued for his volunteer work and for the World War II history he often shares with younger veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
