We at Military Times often have to turn to ghetto-jineering to make our gear work when we&#8217;re chasing you guys around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was looking for a field expedient way to mount our <a href=\"http:\/\/store.contour.com\/contourhd-1080p-p7.aspx?sitelink=contourhd&amp;gclid=CLOSlKbKkqcCFcbc4Aod2FSgdw\">ContourHD POV<\/a> camera to a Kevlar for an assignment last week. There is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ops-core.com\/product.cfm?Product_ID=5&amp;Category_ID=5&amp;\">ARC rail <\/a>friendly helmet mount for the Countour, but most of the services still have rail-less helmets.\u00a0 I needed a solution that was quick to move between a few guy&#8217;s helmets over the course of an event and would be sturdy enough to withstand combative training. After a few false starts, I asked <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.militarytimes.com\/gearscout\/2009\/04\/01\/going-the-extra-mile-for-you\/\">Rob<\/a> for some help and he dug through the gear locker and came up with a Surefire Helmet Light mounting bracket as a basis for the rig. By cannibalizing the Surefire mount and the parts from the ContourHD adhesive backed mounting system, we found a hybrid solution that got the job done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rob shows how make it in the video and there are some still images after the jump&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">moreThis thing does rely on plastic and Velcro but it&#8217;s sturdy enough for daily patrols. Best of all, it&#8217;s cheap since it uses parts from a device you our someone nearby has laying around. There may be more elegant, sturdier (and more expensive) mounts for the CountourHD, but this is our 80% solution for the tactical user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heads up for more &#8220;Tacti-Ghetto&#8221; solutions to common problems, coming soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Update: <\/strong>If you&#8217;re lucky enough to have an Ops-Core ARC rail on your Helmet, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnkholdings.net\/?p=492\">Danneskjold Holdings offered this solution<\/a>.
