Douglas Whimpey was relieved by Capt. Angel Santiago, commander of Naval Construction Group, and will be succeeded in the role by Capt. Steven Sherman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNavy leaders are expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability, and leadership personally and professionally, and the Navy holds them accountable when they fall short of those standards,\u201d the announcement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Navy did not expound on the circumstances that led to Whimpey\u2019s firing. The service often wields the \u201closs of confidence\u201d term as a blanket statement when relieving commanding officers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whimpey took over as commodore for First Naval Construction Regiment \u2014 based in Port Hueneme, California \u2014 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He previously served with the First Naval Construction Regiment in Fallujah in 2005 and 2006, according to comments he offered during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/image\/8066486\/new-commodore-takes-reins-first-naval-construction-regiment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/image\/8066486\/new-commodore-takes-reins-first-naval-construction-regiment\">change of command<\/a> ceremony on Sept. 23, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whimpey\u2019s firing had no bearing on operations, the service said.
