The soldier who has been missing since the helicopter he was on crashed off the coast of Yemen has been declared dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staff Sgt. Emil Rivera-Lopez, 31, of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, was declared deceased Thursday, the Defense Department announced in a statement late Friday. He was previously listed as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown, or DUSTWUN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Aug. 25, Rivera-Lopez and five other service members were on board a Black Hawk helicopter when it crashed about 20 miles off Yemen\u2019s southern coast. The incident happened during a training mission in support of U.S. Central Command operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other five service members on board were rescued by U.S. forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident remains under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
