{"id":31891,"date":"2018-06-15T15:33:22","date_gmt":"2018-06-15T15:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/06\/15\/marine-standing-guard-at-dc-barracks-in-stable-condition-after-self-inflicted-gunshot-wound\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T20:26:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T20:26:33","slug":"marine-standing-guard-at-dc-barracks-in-stable-condition-after-self-inflicted-gunshot-wound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/2018\/06\/15\/marine-standing-guard-at-dc-barracks-in-stable-condition-after-self-inflicted-gunshot-wound\/","title":{"rendered":"Marine standing guard at DC Barracks in stable condition after self-inflicted gunshot wound"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Marine standing post at the Marine Barracks Washington has been taken to the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., following an incident that occurred around 8 a.m. Friday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Corps officials stated in a press release that the Marine suffered from a \u201cself-inflicted\u201d gunshot wound while standing post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/checkpoint\/wp\/2018\/06\/15\/marine-staff-member-in-critical-condition-after-gunshot-wound-at-home-of-the-commandants\/?utm_term=.44abf4161d05\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Post<\/a> reported that the incident may have been the result of a negligent discharge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMarines, along with members of the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington Navy Yard Fire and Emergency Services and District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, immediately responded to the incident,\u201d the Corps said in a statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps provided no further details and the incident is currently under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Marine Barracks Washington hosts the Evening Parade every Friday during the summer, which features a performance by Corps\u2019 silent drill platoon. It is also home to the Marine commandant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday\u2019s Evening Parade will not be impacted by the shooting incident, according to Capt. Colleen McFadden, a Marine spokeswoman, told Marine Corps Times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This story is breaking and will be updated as more information becomes available.
