I thank her for her commitment to the State Department\u2019s mission and for her decades of service to the United States of America. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors,\u201d Pompeo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A former Army intelligence officer, Thompson came into the Trump administration as the national security adviser to Vice President Mike Pence, before being confirmed for the State Department role in April 2018. During her time there, she was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/smr\/nuclear-arsenal\/2018\/12\/04\/pompeo-us-will-leave-nuclear-treaty-over-russian-cheating\/\" target=_blank>notable voice<\/a> among those arguing that the U.S. should exit the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which happened earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thompson also had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/pentagon\/2018\/09\/10\/state-official-predicts-us-weapon-sales-increase-in-2019\/\" target=_blank>oversight on weapon sales<\/a> and ran her agency at a time
