David Berger wants the Corps to remove all \u201cConfederate-related paraphernalia&quot; from Marine bases.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change follows a directive from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2020\/07\/17\/promotion-packet-photos-are-out-name-and-sex-could-be-next\/\" target=_blank>Defense Secretary Mark Esper <\/a>to remove the photos from official paperwork in the hopes of eliminating any \u201cunconscious bias.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to removing the photos from official packages, the Marine Corps, along with the rest of the Department of Defense, was ordered to review its diversity and inclusion policies and seek to root out bias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army stopped including photos for officer selection boards in August following a 2018 study that showed boards ranked candidates with less variance when the photos were removed from the process, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2020\/06\/25\/army-ditches-promotion-photos-as-part-of-an-effort-to-eliminate-unconcious-bias\/\" target=_blank>Army Times previously reported. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps has taken steps to help root out racism, including becoming the first service to ban <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2020\/06\/06\/marine-corps-bars-public-display-of-confederate-flag-on-installations\/\" target=_blank>Confederate
