Jackson\u2019s slippers and glasses remained scattered on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou hit Sam,\u201d Jackson\u2019s companion, Debbie Campbell, <a href=\"https:\/\/philadelphia.cbslocal.com\/2019\/11\/11\/family-searching-for-answers-vietnam-veteran-samuel-jackson-killed-hit-and-run-veterans-day\/\" target=\"_blank\">told CBS Philly<\/a>. \u201cYou had him laying in the street like he\u2019s a dog. &#8230; He fought for this country. &#8230; Stop being a coward and come forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Nov. 10, as Marines everywhere celebrated the service\u2019s 244th birthday \u2014 the first of which took place in historic Tun Tavern just about 20 miles from Jackson\u2019s home \u2014 his family began preparations for an unexpected funeral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former corporal would have wanted to be buried in a Marine Corps uniform, his sister Peggy Jackson said, but they were unable to locate one among his possessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI couldn\u2019t imagine putting anything else on him,&#8221; Jackson told CBS Philly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a local Veterans of Foreign Wars outpost caught wind of the family\u2019s story, it put out a call for uniform donations on their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/vfwpost1074\/?__xts__[0]=68.ARBFpVXmvv9tev8IqJRWD8z6iDIInUlHFcGGEIdUwvNssele77rgP3gj8PxqSfIPfDBIGH8vzlQItZQyCp9w5Lpoxq1U5IZE-5Tui6ccF_Gk2oUIiYWposrV3MOaBCuLJHmsn4jkkFGHqMFhwMzUKh6jeFZ2HXJrmI3FMZ7WuKnOTLI49eXfwB5sFV5ojjbCh34w9K3_2XNAEGXFYzMHdj4pjQ0iRSlhgC7MqlPldQu45W5To_tnD0d9fJcUliv7qw7OQrLAagMwA7_R-Sflk7JPHWDD02ywjL9m1BmratuO5hBtvcO0lgOWdzex_93T6Nfuj34P_1T7DgItFVJg1_bqwg\" target=_blank>Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe outpouring was insane,\u201d Walt Hartnett, commander of VFW Post 1074, told CBS Philly. \u201cI got calls from Mississippi, I got calls from North Carolina.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One call came from Doug Franks, the senior vice commander at VFW in the neighboring town of Trappe, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo one deserves to die like that, and he was very proud of his service for very good reason,\u201d Franks told CBS Philly. \u201cI\u2019m more than willing to share.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Franks donated every item in the dress blue uniform set, and added a jar filled with black sand from Iwo Jima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cJust to know that he is going to be in his military uniform is a blessing,&#8221; Peggy Jackson said. \u201cMy brother\u2019s other family, the Marine family. My God, he loved the Marines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/samuel-jackson-memorial-fund?utm_source=customer&#038;utm_medium=copy_link&#038;utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&#038;fbclid=IwAR0C2gLbqM7cOd6AX7kHNqgQknQFBKOzEGZbcTDf3VjO05RnLaw3K7-zpfc\" target=_blank>GoFundMe has been set up<\/a> by the VFW for monetary donations to assist Jackson\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to give Sammy the honorable service he deserves,\u201d his sister wrote on the donation page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jackson leaves behind five children and seven grandchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe served his country.
