{"id":5283,"date":"2018-01-12T16:31:55","date_gmt":"2018-01-12T16:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/01\/12\/pence-offers-prayers-pep-talk-to-troops-in-nevada-at-nellis\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T19:59:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T19:59:28","slug":"pence-offers-prayers-pep-talk-to-troops-in-nevada-at-nellis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/2018\/01\/12\/pence-offers-prayers-pep-talk-to-troops-in-nevada-at-nellis\/","title":{"rendered":"Vice President Pence at Nellis: The era of military budget cuts is over"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LAS VEGAS \u2014 Vice President Mike Pence offered prayers and a pep talk Thursday to military service members during a visit to an Air Force technology incubator in Las Vegas and a brief speech at nearby Nellis Air Force Base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In comments from a podium on an outdoor stage set between F-35A Lightning and F-22 Raptor fighter jets outside a hangar home to the Air Force Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team, Pence told more than 1,000 camouflage-clad troops that President Donald Trump \u201chas your back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pence drew applause when he said that under Trump, the era of armed forces budget cuts is over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nellis is a top Air Force training base and fighter pilot proving ground. Pence noted the Air Force role in fights against what he twice called \u201cradical Islamic terrorism.\u201d He cited Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, where he declared the Islamic State \u201con the run.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the face of ongoing threats and provocations by the regime in North Korea, I can assure you the resolve of the United States is firm,\u201d the vice president declared. \u201cAll options are on the table.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He told the troops that America, \u201cnow more than ever,\u201d needs their excellence, expertise and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou are the instrument of American power,\u201d Pence said. \u201cOn behalf of your commander-in-chief, I admonish you: Be ready. Mind your mission. Take care of one another. Train as never before.
