That curriculum was largely designed to prepare troops for the counterterrorism fight that dominated U.S. military operations for the past two decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2022\/10\/03\/air-force-overhauls-pre-deployment-training-for-a-new-era-in-combat\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/220912-F-NI202-9058.jfif_.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Air Force overhauls pre-deployment training for a new era in combat<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">&quot;Ready Airman Training&quot; took effect Oct. 1.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But times are changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, the Air Force and Space Force want to train their newest recruits for a spur-of-the-moment fight that requires troops to think on their feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new \u201cPACER FORGE\u201d exercise is a faster-paced mock deployment that lasts two days rather than four. It aims to simulate a rapid response to an urgent threat without the usual facilities or supplies at the ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of asking trainees to set up a makeshift base from which they could launch air operations, the Air Force\u2019s 37th Training Wing has shifted the exercise \u201cmore toward that \u2018multicapable airman\u2019 mindset,\u201d Lt. Gen. Brian Robinson, head of Air Education and Training Command, told reporters in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That means that rather than dispatching larger groups of airmen who each have their own particular skill, the exercise will teach airmen how to work in smaller teams where skills overlap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also illustrates the opportunities and challenges ahead for a force that is short-staffed and recovering from decades at war.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2021\/08\/09\/the-air-forces-chief-of-staff-lays-out-a-new-way-to-deploy\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1000w_q95-12-1.jpg-1.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">The Air Force\u2019s chief of staff lays out a new way to deploy<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">\u201cFor the past 15, 16 years &#8230; whatever was needed, we would send,\u201d Chief of Staff Gen. Charles \u201cCQ\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The curriculum focuses on launching missions, battlefield command and control, and base support, the service said. It\u2019s part of an effort to give airmen enough time to rest between deployments, and to prepare both people and planes for another round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat we are doing is making [trainees] ready to join any team, to work well together, to solve tough problems, to be good wingmen and teammates and to innovate,\u201d 737th Training Group commander Col.
