{"id":64854,"date":"2023-06-28T20:55:34","date_gmt":"2023-06-28T20:55:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/uncategorized\/2023\/06\/28\/space-force-streamlines-schedule-for-annual-performance-reviews\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T21:17:49","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T21:17:49","slug":"space-force-streamlines-schedule-for-annual-performance-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/your-military\/2023\/06\/28\/space-force-streamlines-schedule-for-annual-performance-reviews\/","title":{"rendered":"Space Force streamlines schedule for annual performance reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Space Force will move to a more predictable schedule for its annual performance reviews, following the Air Force\u2019s lead on an initiative that began last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than ask guardians to submit job reviews on a rolling basis throughout the year, each rank will stick to a set due date known as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2022\/02\/17\/air-force-aims-for-smoother-fairer-performance-reviews-for-officers\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cstatic closeout date.\u201d<\/a> The changes apply to officers up to the rank of colonel, or O-6, and all enlisted guardians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of the Air Force has said that consistency helps troops, and the supervisors rating their performance, to plan ahead and allows them to more clearly see their strengths and weaknesses compared to peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move \u201cincreases equity at performance boards and [within] other development and talent management processes, and ensures current performance is captured in advance of promotion boards,\u201d the Space Force said in a release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPredictability of evaluations for all guardians will also help reduce the administrative burden of evaluation tracking and timing with consistent timelines throughout the year,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The complete schedule of close-out dates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jan. 31 \u2014 specialists 1-4, sergeants (and those selected for promotion to the rank), technical sergeants (and selects)<\/li><li>April 30 \u2014 colonels<\/li><li>May 31 \u2014 chief master sergeants (and selects)<\/li><li>July 31 \u2014 master sergeants (and selects), senior master sergeants (and selects)<\/li><li>Oct. 31 \u2014 first and second lieutenants<\/li><li>Nov. 30 \u2014 captains, majors and lieutenant colonels<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Colonels who finished their most recent review cycle last year will close out their current review on Oct. 31 before adopting the April date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the Air Force announced its own version of the plan last year \u2014 after six years in the works \u2014 the Space Force initially said it would hold off on adopting that schedule as well while the newest service figured out its own path forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will take more than a year to fully transition guardians to the new schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of the Air Force also recently announced the latest round of guardians tapped for promotion.
