The U.S.-led military coalition battling Combined Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve has taken its the messaging fight against <\/span>the Islamic State group is expanding its online messaging efforts, launching\u00a0a new\u00a0into overdrive, launching a <\/span>digital hub intended to showcase the campaign’s scope and successes, and making more deliberate moves on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The website,\u00a0for news releases, photos, videos, press and more.\u00a0<\/span>Inherentresolve.mil<\/a>, launched March 31. It’s intended to\u00a0is an expansion of the task force\u2019s “persistent” web presence, “informing key audiences with accurate and timely information of coalition progress and activities” and <\/span>complementing<\/span>\u00a0the coalition’s efforts on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter\u00a0its preexisting social media<\/span>, where ISIS has proven relentlessly adept both at luring new fighters to its cause and promoting fear by glamorizing its most gruesome violence\u00a0presence and “media tools,” CJTF-OIR Public Affairs Officer Col. Christopher Garver told Military Times in an email Monday<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The site will house a variety\u00a0of media, from news releases and relevant numerical data to photos,\u00a0video and material currently posted only to the coalition’s social media feeds. U.S. officials hope the effort will help inform not only the American public, but that of the coalition’s 60-plus partner nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conjunction with the site\u2019s launch, the <\/span>Combined Joint\u00a0Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, as the coalition is known,\u00a0has also been incorporating\u00a0boosted the <\/span>strategic\u00a0also upped its use of what it’s calling\u00a0strategic <\/span>hashtags, such asnotably<\/span>using “#onemissionmanynations” and <\/span>“#NoToDaesh,” into its online messaging.\u00a0in a more recent tweet promoting the website.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“‘One Mission Many Nations’ is the CJTF-OIR motto and represents the more than 60 partner nations of CJTF-OIR that are committed to the defeat of ISIL,'” Garver\u00a0said of the first hashtag, which was included in the announcement meme for the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use of the term\u00a0As for the latter hashtag,\u00a0the Task Force\u2019s use of <\/span>“Da\u2019esh”\u00a0vs. the more common moniker of “ISIS” in reference to the Islamic State group\u00a0<\/span>is intended to leverage a part <\/span>regional colloquialism and take a part <\/span>jab at ISIS, said Col. Christopher\u00a0Garver, a spokesman for the coalition\u00a0explained<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We use the name Da’esh because our partners in the Middle East refer to ISIS or ISIL as Da’esh,” he said. … “Da’esh is loosely an acronym for the Arabic name of ISIL – al-Dawla al-Islamiya al-Iraq al-Sham.”\u00a0But it\u2019s also a not-so-subtle criticism of the terrorist organization\u2019s actions in the region.\u00a0<\/span>“Da’esh is also translated as \u2018to trample down and crush\u2019 or \u2018bigot who imposes his ideas on others.\u2019” he said. “<\/span>\u00a0ISIL does not like the term Da’esh and has outlawed its use in the parts of Iraq and Syria it controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said, ‘Da’esh hates being referred to by this term, and what they don’t like has an instinctive appeal to me.'”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
