1862: In the Battle of Mill Springs (or Fishing Creek, in Confederate parlance), Union forces under then-Brig. Gen. George Thomas (pictured) defeated Maj. Gen. George B. Crittenden’s Rebels as they are driven from eastern Kentucky, Brig. Gen. Felix Kirk Zollicoffer being among the 125 Confederates killed (plus 404 wounded or missing) against 39 Union dead and 127 wounded.
