PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Navy says the nuclear-powered USS Harry S. Truman has finished seven months of maintenance at a Virginia shipyard.
The aircraft carrier left Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth on Friday. The ship’s home port is just down the Elizabeth River at Naval Station Norfolk.
While at the shipyard, the Truman’s propulsion plant was modernized and its catapult launch system was inspected.
The Truman is the Navy’s ninth nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and the eighth in the Nimitz class. The ship was launched in 1996 and delivered to the United States Navy in 1998.
