NORFOLK, Va. – The guided-missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke is back at its homeport in Norfolk after an eight-month deployment.
The ship returned to Naval Station Norfolk on Friday.
During its Ballistic Missile Defense deployment, the Arleigh Burke was supporting maritime security operations in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.
The ship and its crew of 300 sailors played a role in America’s fight against on Islamic State group targets last month.
WAVY-TV reports that the crew fired dozens of Tomahawk missiles from the Arabian Sea in the early morning hours of Sept. 23.
