The newly minted 81st Stryker Brigade Combat Team will switch out their raven patches for the iconic “Indian head” worn by the 2nd Infantry Division on Saturday, kicking off a year-long alliance with the active Army.
The 81st will train with 2nd ID stryker brigades, headquartered under the 7th Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, to learn how to operate their new strykers, according to officials from the 7th ID and Washington National Guard.
“Being under the 7
thID, in an active duty division, gives us access to training opportunities that we didn’t have before,” 81st commander Col. Brian Grenon told Army Times in a Tuesday phone interview. “Subject matter experts, leaders at all echelons to help us really get after training.”
The units are the 13th duo to link up as part of the associated units pilot program, which brings sends a guard unit to operate with an active unit for a year at a time
