John Rader was on his way home after nearly two years deployed to Afghanistan. During his layover in Houston, he was told his bag was too heavy, over the 70-pound weight limit. The gear in his bag included\u00a0a Kevlar vest, two helmets and his boots.\u00a0<br\/>\u00a0<br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.united.com\/web\/en-US\/content\/products\/milgov\/military-benefits.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Link: https:\/\/www.united.com\/web\/en-US\/content\/products\/milgov\/military-benefits.aspx\">United Airlines\u2019 policy<\/a>says active military members can have up to five bags checked for free, as long as they remain under 70 pounds each.\u00a0Without another bag to siphon items into, Rader found himself paying the $200 fine.\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The airline released a statement on Thursday saying the\u00a0$200 fine would be reimbursed as a &#8220;gesture of goodwill.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rader said in a <a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fox7austin.com\/news\/local-news\/255030202-story\">Fox 7 report<\/a>he wants to try to change the policy, and he doesn&#8217;t intend to fly on United again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
