All reported police didn\u2019t release further information, including the man\u2019s name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Messages sent to spokespersons for the Honolulu Police Department and the Honolulu mayor\u2019s office seeking confirmation and further details were not immediately returned Sunday to The Associated Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shots were fired at around 6 p.m., according to police. Hotel security staff went up to the room where the man was located and knocked on the door. He then fired through the door multiple times, police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one outside the door was hurt, Honolulu police Capt. Brian Lynch told news outlets. He was not immediately identified but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.staradvertiser.com\/2021\/04\/10\/breaking-news\/honolulu-police-responding-to-incident-at-kahala-hotel\/\" target=_blank>the Honolulu Star-Advertiser<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kitv.com\/story\/43642749\/police-suspect-in-kahala-hotel-shooting-believed-to-be-a-military-service-member\" target=_blank>KITV <\/a>said he was 40 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are deeply saddened by the loss of a shipmate,\u201d U.S. Navy Cmdr. Displaced guests were provided with food, blankets and pillows. Hours after the standoff began, guests sheltering in place were allowed to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Images from outside the resort showed a large police presence, including a SWAT team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kahala resident Yevgeniy Lendel told Hawaii News Now he was walking in the area when officers rushed to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe cops told everyone to run and shelter,\u201d he told the TV station. \u201cWe ran away from the hotel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The standoff occurred during what had seemed to be a quiet evening at the resort. Visitors and locals were eating at beachside restaurants and taking in the sights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Honolulu resident Rex Jakobovits said he was strolling on the beach when he was told by police to get into the hotel\u2019s ballroom. He told Hawaii News Now that when he got inside, people were frightened. Some were crying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Jakobovits said the mood eventually calmed after officers were posted outside the
