{"id":18324,"date":"2016-11-23T01:09:03","date_gmt":"2016-11-23T01:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/uncategorized\/2016\/11\/23\/sub-portrayed-in-hunt-for-red-october-ends-last-deployment\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T18:54:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T18:54:33","slug":"sub-portrayed-in-hunt-for-red-october-ends-last-deployment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/news\/your-navy\/2016\/11\/23\/sub-portrayed-in-hunt-for-red-october-ends-last-deployment\/","title":{"rendered":"Sub portrayed in &#8216;Hunt for Red October&#8217; ends last deployment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GROTON, Conn. \u2014 A U.S. Navy attack submarine that was portrayed in &#8220;The Hunt for Red October&#8221; has returned to its Connecticut homeport from its last scheduled deployment after 35 years in the fleet. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The USS Dallas had a brush with Hollywood fame in the 1990 Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin thriller, but did not make an appearance in the film\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the USS Houston played the part of the Dallas in the movie. The Houston also recently left service and was inactivated in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Los Angeles-class submarine arrived back at the Navy base in Groton on Tuesday. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On its final deployment it traveled 42,000 miles and made port stops in Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Scotland and France. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The submarine was commissioned in 1981. It was scheduled to be inactivated sooner but the Navy in 2014 decided to extend its service life to help meet demands on attack subs. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sailors&#8217; relatives drove from as far as Texas to be reunited with their loved ones upon the submarine&#8217;s return to port. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
