Villanueva<\/a> was relieved Wednesday \u201cdue to a loss of confidence in ability to lead,\u201d according to U.S. Surface Force Pacific spokesman Cmdr. Brad Swanbeck was fired due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command, according to Navy officials.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Villanueva did not respond to a phone message or requests for comment submitted through official channels by Navy Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally from Honolulu, Villanueva is the son of Navy mess specialist from the Philippines. He was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1998, two years after graduating from San Diego State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Villanueva served as executive officer of the guided-missile destroyer Gridley and in SURFPAC\u2019s aviation department in recent years, according to Navy personnel records and his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.public.navy.mil\/surfor\/ddg101\/Pages\/bio2-18September2015-25May2016.aspx#.W3r4JOhKjcs\" target=_blank>command bio<\/a> website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Villanueva has received two Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and an Army Achievement Medal during his career, according to military records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lt. Cmdr. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.public.navy.mil\/surfor\/ddg73\/Pages\/bio2.aspx#.W3shGuhKg2w\" target=_blank>Molly Lawton<\/a>, a Decatur department head, has assumed temporary XO duties until a permanent relief arrives, Evans said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The San Diego Union-Tribune <a
