All of the crew survived that incident and were awarded Distinguished Flying Crosses for their efforts to get the plane safely down in Midland, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/airforcetimes\/news\/your-air-force\/2018\/06\/19\/air-force-reveals-risks-bravery-behind-b-1-emergency-landing-and-blown-hatch\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/AP18122047411157_2.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Air Force reveals risks, bravery behind B-1 emergency landing and blown hatch<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">One crew sat 25 minutes on an armed ejection seat as pilots worked to land the stricken aircraft.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time, it was over concerns with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2018\/06\/19\/air-force-b-1b-bombers-to-resume-flights-following-ejection-seat-complaint\/\" target=\"_blank\">B-1\u2032s <\/a>drogue chute system, which corrects the seat\u2019s angle to allow an airman to safely depart the bomber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDuring a routine inspection of the B-1B drogue chute system, potentially fleet-wide issues were identified with the rigging of the drogue chute,\u201d the Air Force said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt appears to be a procedural issue and is unrelated to the previous problem with egress system components. As a precautionary measure, the commander directed a holistic inspection of the entire egress system. The safety stand-down will afford maintenance and aircrew flight equipment technicians the necessary time to thoroughly inspect each aircraft,&#8221; Global Strike Command said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs these inspections are completed and any issues are resolved, aircraft will return to flight.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s
