PHOENIX \u2014 Vulnerable Republican Sen. Martha McSally<\/a> attacks her Democratic opponent, Mark Kelly, for supporting the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump in an ad that began airing on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McSally\u2019s first television ad of the 2020 election cycle attempts to tie Kelly to liberal members of Congress and the leaders of the Democratic efforts to impeach Trump and remove him from office, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Washington liberals are obsessed with President Trump,” a narrator says in the ad. “They wasted three years and millions of dollars trying to overturn the last election and steal the next one. Liberal Mark Kelly supported their impeachment scam.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an unusually early start for a campaign\u2019s advertising, McSally is upping the ante on the airwaves after months of attacks against her by liberal groups <\/a>that contend McSally\u2019s support for repealing former President Barack Obama\u2019s health care law would harm people with preexisting health conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The race between Kelly and McSally is among a handful of 2020 contests that will determine which party controls the U.S. Senate. It’s likely to attract tens of millions of dollars in advertising from both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelly said after a Senate trial into accusations the president abused his power and obstructed the congressional investigation that he would have voted to remove the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All Senate Democrats supported Trump\u2019s removal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBefore I joined the Navy<\/a>, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution \u2013 the president did as well,\u201d Kelly said at the time. \u201cHe did not live up to that oath when he intimidated witnesses, refused to provide documents and relevant testimony to Congress, and when he attempted to use his office to influence a foreign government to aid his re-election.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A retired Air Force officer<\/a>, McSally voted with all Republicans but one to keep Trump in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said the president\u2019s efforts to get Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son were \u201cinappropriate\u201d but added \u201cthis does not rise to anywhere near the level of throwing the president out of office or off the ballot for the first time in American history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
