A Navy P-8A Poseidon flying over the Black Sea was rocked Saturday when a Russian jet flew just 50 feet in front of the American aircraft, leaving the Poseidon in the fighter\u2019s afterburners, U.S. European Command officials said Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Poseidon was flying in international airspace as part of routine operations to exercise freedom of navigation and overflight at the time, according to EUCOM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Russian SU-30 crossed in front of the P-8 (from right to left) in afterburner causing a 15 degree roll and violent turbulence,\u201d EUCOM spokeswoman Meghan Henderson said in an email. \u201cThe P-8 was forced to fly through the jet wash of the SU-30.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entire interaction \u2014 from the Russian jet\u2019s first appearance until losing contact \u2014 lasted 24 minutes, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
