{"id":22509,"date":"2016-01-19T16:44:26","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T16:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/uncategorized\/2016\/01\/19\/no-easy-day-author-under-investigation-kept-osama-bin-laden-corpse-photo\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T19:13:01","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T19:13:01","slug":"no-easy-day-author-under-investigation-kept-osama-bin-laden-corpse-photo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/navytimes\/news\/your-navy\/2016\/01\/19\/no-easy-day-author-under-investigation-kept-osama-bin-laden-corpse-photo\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;No Easy Day&#8217; author under investigation, kept Osama Bin Laden corpse photo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A former Navy SEAL who published his account of the 2011 Osama bin Laden raid is under investigation for a possible conflict of interest between his private consulting and his active-duty\u00a0procurement work for SEAL Team 6<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> and his private\u00a0consultantcy work and his position as a member of SEAL Team 6<\/span>, The Intercept reported Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former Chief Special Operator (SEAL)\u00a0Matt Bissonnette, who had previously been under investigation for divulging secrets<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">classified material<\/span> in his memoir &#8220;No Easy Day,&#8221; turned over a copy of his hard drive to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which allegedly contained a classified\u00a0photo of the dead terrorist leader, according to the news\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2016\/01\/19\/navy-seal-turns-over-picture-of-bin-ladens-body-faces-investigation-of-business-ties\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NCIS received Bissonnette&#8217;s hard drive\u00a0in exchange as part of an agreement not to prosecute him for <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">or not prosecuting him for <\/span>possession of the photo of bin Laden&#8217;s corpse<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">classified material<\/span>, sources told The Intercept. He has worked with at least one defense contractor, Atlantic Diving Supply, that sells equipment to Bissonette&#8217;s former team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a source, there is evidence of hundreds of thousands of dollars that ADS paid to The Element Group, and investigators are trying to figure out what services Bissonnette&#8217;s company provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four other SEALs have joined The Element Group, according to a source, and one will retire soon because of it.
