What a difference a year makes.\u00a0That\u2019s especially true for <\/span>The 3,062 selected reservists eligible to earn their this year to put on <\/span>chief\u2019s anchors this year have . They\u2019ve got <\/span>nearly twice the quotas and <\/span>opportunity from just a year ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 812 reserve quotas this year, the shot at chief\u00a0is 26.5 percent, significantly better than the 465 quotas and 14.8 percent shot last year.\u00a0quotas last year\u2019s board had to work with.<\/span>\u00a0In addition, there are\u00a0Also hoping the increase in opportunity is the fact there\u2019s <\/span>90 fewer eligible sailors competing this year<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reserve Full-Time Support opportunity ticked up rose slightly <\/span>this year to 16.3, up just over <\/span>a percentage point higher from last year\u2019s 15 percent chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In all, it\u2019s the best shot that reservists have had to join\u00a0advance into <\/span>the goat locker in at least two years, as the Navy Reserve has undergone extensive force restructuring over that time<\/span>. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This also means, with <\/span>The convening of the Selected Reserve and Reserve FTSfull-time support<\/span> chief\u2019s boards Monday also kicks off in Millington, <\/span>this year\u2019s chief\u2019s season has officially begun<\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am very encouraged by the quotas for this cycle. This increase in opportunity represents hard work of planners,” said Force Master Chief (AW\/SW) C.J. Mitchell, the reserve’s senior enlisted adviser. “It is good see hard work, mentorship, and exam preparation study rewarded with outstanding quotas for reserve component sailors.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selected Reserve<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the selective reserve, there\u2019s 67 ratings which advance sailors to chief petty officer. Twenty-nine will advance above the 26.5 average opportunity, 26 below. while 26 more ratings will advance sailors below that average.<\/span> Two ratings have no eligible sailors and as well as <\/span>no quotas.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, the dark cloud to the silver lining is the fact that still <\/span>this year\u00a010 ratings won\u2019t advance anyone at all \u2014\u00a0, meaning <\/span>for the 58 sailors in those career fields, it\u2019s already a wait until next year ballgame<\/span>. But in that bad news,<\/span> the encouraging sign is that those numbers are down from 14 ratings last year and 226 sailors last year who had zero chance to advance<\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if those sailors can take heart as nine of those 10 have no quotas for the second year in a row, is the fact that two of the top three individual ratings this year came from in specialties advancing nobody last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top spot this year goes to aviation maintenance administrationman, which will advance all three eligible sailors this year after two straight years of goose egg opportunity. That\u2019s possibly a 100 percent shot; the board, however, reserves\u00a0that those sailors will move up. But it\u2019s not guaranteed as the board has <\/span>the right to give back quotas if they feel any candidates aren\u2019t fully qualified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, aviation electronic\u2019s technicians, too<\/span> have also risen from two consecutive years with no chance at chief to a 76.9 percent shot this year, with 10 of 13 eligibles moving up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FTS \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those in the FTS community, the opportunity to move up also brightenedimproved, but only slightly but it\u2019s the second year in a row there\u2019s been a slight uptick in opportunity<\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s 1,026 eligible FTSfull-time support<\/span> E-6s\u00a0nine more than last year, <\/span>are competing for 167 quotas, which accounted for the percentage point rise to 16.3 percent shot<\/span>. \u00a0The 1,017 Reserve full-time support first classes are vying for one of 156 openings, a 15.04 percent selection rate. <\/span>Last year, 14.8<\/span>9 percent of FTS E-6‘<\/span>s got their chief’s <\/span>anchors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boatswain\u2019s mate was again one of the top performing ratings among the 22 in the FTS community. Their chance more than <\/span>doubled: as <\/span>They\u2019ll advance 13 of 24 candidates, increasing opportunity to 54.2 percent, up <\/span>from 25 percent last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with their Selected Reserve counterparts, the AZ rating saw their shot improve from last year\u2019s nil goose egg <\/span>to a one in four chance, with 5 of 20 slated to move up. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the downside, again this year, two ratings with a total of 50 sailors have no chance at all. Culinary specialist’s 12 eligibles will again have to wait another year for a shot at anchors. Meanwhile the 12 eligible electrician’s mates saw their chanced plummet from last year’s 43 percent chance to zero and another 12 E-6s are looking ahead to next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
