A 41-year-old Thai woman was recently extradited and charged with defrauding the U.S. Navy to the tune of $5 million for her alleged role in the infamous \u201cFat Leonard\u201d <\/a>bribery case. The scandal has so far seen at least 33 people charged and the ruin of high-ranking officials, and cost taxpayers an estimated $35 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pornpun Settaphakron<\/a> pleaded not guilty on Monday in federal court in San Diego to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of false claims, according to a U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prosecutors <\/a>allege that Settaphakron turned in $5 million worth of false claims while she managed the Thailand office of the Singapore-based contractor Glenn Defense Marine Asia. The judge ordered her detained. Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
