By the end of last week, the Navy had fired two submarine commanders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The relief of Capt. Gregory R. Kercher, head of the submarine Florida\u2019s gold crew, arrived four days after the Navy fired the commanding officer of the Bremerton<\/a>, Cmdr. Travis Zettel, on Aug. 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kercher\u2019s relief was due to a loss of confidence after superiors at U.S. Submarine Forces \u201cbecame aware of a poor command climate,\u201d Cmdr. Sarah Self-Kyler, a SUBFOR spokeswoman, said Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Submarine Group 10 \u201cimmediately convened an investigation\u201d into the climate, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While that probe remains underway, \u201csufficient information\u201d was uncovered to relieve Kercher, Self-Kyler said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe loss of confidence was not due to personal misconduct and (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is not involved,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
